Who are we?

Welcome to Malmö Student Theatre

IMER Student Theatre (or just Malmö Student Theatre) is a part of Malmö University IMER’s theatre course and thus a student project based group. It was started in 2004 and has since then set up several productions each year. Theatre & Social Justice, the course at Malmö University, studies the theory and practice of theatre. More info at: www.edu.mah.se/EN207E/.

The Malmö Student Union also has an theatre called in Swedish, Studentteatern, which which started in 2001 and is currently inactive. Student Theatre (English) and Studentteatern (Swedish) have often work very closely together since the spring of 2004. Contact the student union if you wish to start up Studentteatern and be a member of its board.

The english group is part of Malmö University’s school of IMER and run by Adam Gray, teacher of English and Theatre. The ensemble shifts from group to group, production to production. Malmö Student Theatre is also an organisation within Malmö Amature Theatre Forum (MAF), Scandinavia’s largest amateur theatre building and an umbrella organization for Malmö’s amateur theatre groups (about 30).

Everyone is welcome to join and get involved (you do not need to be a student). You do not need to have any previous experience in theatre. There are student project groups who need help every term and auditions are held from time to time. You are also encouraged to direct a production yourself. Choose a play and then present your idea to the Theatre class. Many project groups are glad to have an outside director.

This theatre works and performs in English. Last year 8 of 9 plays were done in English. Workshops were also held in English. However, if you want to do only Swedish, there is a place for you if you contact the student union and organize the Swedish group “Studentteatern”, with whom Student Theatre has always worked closely together.

Besides being creative, theatre is also a social activity. We come together from different walks of life, but we all have this common intrest that ties us together. Therefore, we love to spend time together outside of rehearsals and workshops! Sometimes at a party or go together to see a good play at the local theatres. We always spend time together to have a snack after workshops and sometimes after rehearsals too… or go grab a beer at a local pub! Please, feel free to come join in the fun. Welcome!

Nybildad grupp

2002
Commediapjäsen Arlecchinos äventyr/Nätter i Venedig sätts upp.

2003
Malmö studentteater blir medlem i Malmö Amatörteaterforum (MAF).

2004

2005
I januari blir Marcel Stanciucu teaterns regissör.

2006

Våren avslutas med The Telephone
